Paraphrasing, due to inability to get permission due to unknown copyright. "Uncle Jimmy," James Madison McLendon (McClendon), who was born in 1848 in Georgia but resides (should be "resided")in Mississippi and Louisiana from an early age, died at his daughter's, Miss Mary McLendon's, house in Adamstown on August 26, 1929. He was 81 years old. He and his wife, Elizabeth "Sissy" Adams McLendon (McClendon), had been living with their daughter. In 1905, James Madison McLendon (McClendon) cut down the 1st pine tree for the Great Southern Lumber Company where Bogalusa, Washington Parish, Louisiana exists today. Years later he donated the axe to Colonel William Henry Sullivan who then donated it to the City of Bogalusa. It resides in a glass case in the Bogalusa’s City Hall. He belonged to the Baptist Church and Masonic fraternity - Picayune Lodge. Masonic fraternity - Picayune Lodge resided over his funeral and was assisted by Rev. A. C. King, Rev. T. A. Bennett, and Rev. S. C. Rushing. He is survived by his widow, Elizabeth "Sissy" Adams McLendon (McClendon) and a daughter, Miss Mary McLendon (McClendon).
