He was a resident of Houston since 1966 and a former resident of Franklinton, where he attended and finished school and was raised by his grandmother, Cindy Bickham. He was born, March 20, 1917 in San Francisco, Ca. Mr. Menton was a manager of Exxon’s Marine and Shipping Department in Baton Rouge until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of AWO and served as chairman of the Southern region. While in Baton Rouge he served on the Boards of the Salvation Army, Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, and the Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce, He was chairman of Construction and Building Traders Division for United Givers Fund, chairman of study of Aging Groups in East Baton Rouge Parish. He was also a member of Toastmasters. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mildred Cecelia Voorhies Menton; one daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Will Gauthier; one granddaughter, Gigi Gauthier of Birmingham, AL; one sister, Mrs. Betty Kimbrell of Meridian, MS; one half-brother, retired Naval Capt. Clifford B. Hart of Williamsburg, VA. Visitation was held at Gen. H. Lewis and Sons, in Baton Rouge at 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday, April 13. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., April 15, in the Chapel of Green Oaks Funeral Home in Baton Rouge. Entombment followed in Green Oaks Mausoleum. The family requested that for those desiring, memorial contributions be give to a charity of your choice.
