He began his career in the printing industry with the Bogalusa Enterprise and the Bogalusa News. He later owned Hayden Printin Co. on Pleasant Hill. He continued his printing career at the Morning Advocate and retired from The Houston Post. The then returned to Bogalusa, where he has resided for the past 26, years. Hayden was active in the Pleasant Hill Boosters, a former member of Center Lodge # 244, and a Shriner. He is survived by his son, Horace Adna Hayden Jr., a daughter-in-law, Barbara Borden hayden of Bogalusa; four grandchildren, Suzi Hayden and her husband, Dale Sibley of Slidell, Terri Hayden Coxe, Horace "Hap" Adna Hayden, III and his wife Julia, both of Bogalusa; and Hugh Alan Hayden of Madisonville; six great-grandchildren, Jay Robert Coxe and Bennett Ross Coxe of Bogalusa, John Hayden Sibley and Lana Sibley of Slidell, Horace "Hayes " Adna Hayden, IV, and Mary Margaret HAyden of Bogalusa; a brother, John Dodds of Bogalusa; and several nieces and nephews. Verger (Died November 1, 2000) BOGALUSA - Elizabeth M. Verger, 78, a resident of Bogalusa, died Wednesday at 4:22 p.m. in St. Tammany Hospital in Covington of unknown causes. She was born in Bogalusa on April 18, 1922, was a Bogalusa Football Queen in 1939, and graduated from Bogalusa High School in 1940. She was a model in New Orleans when she married her husband of 59 years on November 8, 1941. During World War II, she joined the United States Air Force and became one of the first women to become a tower operator and a charter member of the Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation, Inc. while continuing her modeling career by making short movie advertisements for women in the military. She shared her husband's career of 25 years in the United States Air Force and 15 years as the director of Tampa Port Authority. She continued her modeling career until 1970. In 1964, she pursued a life-long passion for painting and fine art. As she passed from our hands to God's she was surrounded by her husband and family. She is survived by her husband, Guy L. Verger; her children, Lizette V. Clinton (Gregory G. Clinton), Jene' Verger, Charles Armand Verger (Virginia Singley Verger); her grandchildren, Nichole Clinton Gann (Steve Gann), Suzette Harden Jones (Brian Jones), Sarah Hamilton Verger, Danny L. She was a Bogalusa Football Queen in 1939, and graduated from Bogalusa High School in 1940. She was a model in New Orleans when she married her husband of 59 years on Nov. 8, 1941. During World War II, she joined the United States Air Force and became one of the first women to become a tower operator and a charter member of the Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation, Inc. while continuing her modeling career by making short movie advertisements for women in the military. She shared her husband's career of 25 years in the United States Air Force and 15 years as the director of Tampa Port Authority. She continued her modeling career until 1970. In 1964, she pursued a life-long passion for painting and fine art. As she passed from our hands to God's she was surrounded by her husband and family. She is survived by her husband, Guy N. He also attended the HIA Life Insurance Institute at Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN. He worked as a life Insurance agent and licensed underwriter for 53 years, United States postal carrier for 16 years, income tax consultant for 47 years, and corrections officer at Washington Correctional Institute for six years. He served as an ordained deacon for 30 years and teacher of adult men's class # 10 at Second Missionary Baptist Church for 37 years. He volunteered as assistant Cub Master for 25 years and was Boy Scout Master for 55 years. He was a Master Mason for 28 years and an American Red Cross Board member for 18 years. During his tenure as Scout Master for Boy Scouts of America, Troop 293, he produced 30 Eagle Scouts, 17 District Executives and six Scout Executives. Among the many scouting awards received, he received the 1964 Honor Unit Award, Scouter Key, Award of Merit, Silver Beaver Award, Spirit of Scouting and the Lord Baden Powell Patch.
