He served for 18 years as district attorney for the 22nd Judicial District, Washington and St. Tammany Parishes. He was a graduate of LSU and the LSU Law School. During the years of World War II he served as an agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigations. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Franklinton and a 50- year member of Franklinton Masonic Lodge No. 101. Erwin was a charter member of the Long Range Skeet Club of Franklinton. She was 62. Born January 30, 1938, in Bogalusa, she grew up there and attended St. Mary of the Pines in Chattawa, MS. She was the bride of Don Swearingen on August 27, 1955, until his death in 1979. On January 3, 1981, she married Glenn Holiday. They lived in Michigan and then moved overseas to London, England. After his retirement, they spent twelve years cruising the Mediterranean on their vessel, The Twelfth of Never. She is survived by her devoted husband, Glenn; two sons, Don Swearingen of Riverside, CA and Michael Swearingen of Slidell; her mother, Camille Planche White, of Bogalusa, Louisiana; two brothers, George White of Baton Rouge, and William Leo White Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO; three stepdaughters, Carol McIntyre, Kathy Bedor, Chris Roth of Michigan, a stepson, Mike Holiday, of Florida; fourteen grandchildren, and many friends. He had served his country in the United States Army and was stationed overseas in Germany. A retired welder, he was married to the former Ella Mae Creel July 17, 1965. He was 89 years old. The last surviving son of early Bogalusa pioneers J.H. "Jack" and Mable Burke Cassidy, he was a native son who made his own contributions to the city of Bogalusa and the Louisiana banking industry. Mr. Cassidy was well known as a businessman and entrepreneur throughout the South. Cassidy graduated from Bogalusa High School in 1928 and attended Louisiana State University from 1930-1933. In February 1934, he was employed by the First State Bank and Trust Company as bookkeeper-teller. In 1942, he was admitted to the F.B.I. Training Academy in Quantico, VA, for training as a Special Agent. In that capacity, he served in Denver, Los Angeles and New Orleans under J. Edgar Hoover until he resigned and returned to Bogalusa in 1948. He then resumed his distinguished banking career which spanned 55 active years in the industry. A 1952 graduate of the first class of the School of Banking of the South at LSU, Mr. Cassidy joined the faculty in 1969 and continued as Director until 1972. Active in both the Louisiana Bankers Association and the American Bankers Association, he served as President of the LBA in 1965-1966 and Vice President of the ABA for Louisiana in 1979. Mr. Cassidy held the distinction of having the second longest tenure in banking in Louisiana. He retired as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of First State Bank and Trust Company in 1995 when the bank merged with Hibernia National Bank. A dedicated public servant, Mr. Cassidy served as President of the Bogalusa City School Board from 1952-1956. In 1956 he was elected Mayor of Bogalusa, the first native-born Bogalusan to be elected mayor. He was the city's first mayor to win a second term unopposed since W.H. Sullivan, Bogalusa's first mayor. During that time, he also served as President of the Louisiana Municipal Association. In addition to holding banking positions and elected offices, Mr. Cassidy was elected in 1966 to the Board of Directors of Louisiana Power and Light Company, a position he held for 17 years before being named Director Emeritus. A native of Covington, he was a graduate of Lyon High School in Covington and Southeastern Louisiana University. Galloway was a teacher, football coach, athletic commissioner and was the former owner of Mitey Muffler in Hammond. He had served as head coach at Donaldsonville High School, Bogalusa High School and Hammond High School, as well as at SLU. He was selected by the U.S. Air Force to conduct football clinics in Wiesbaden, Germany in 1962, and in 1963 he was sent to Honolulu, Tokyo, Wake Island and Korea to conduct football clinics. Galloway had been commissioner of the Louisiana State Colleges and Universities and had helped form and served as commissioner of the Gulf States Conferences. He was elected to the Louisiana Sportswriters Association Hall of Fame, the Southeastern Louisiana University Hall of Fame, and had also received special recognition from the Louisiana Football and Basketball Officials Association.
