Arlesia Brock of Tallahasse, FL; two sons, Gary Brock of Houston, TX and
Darryl Brock of Concord, NY; a sister, Billie Jean Sibley of Kentwood; a
brother, Alphonse Brock of Houston, TX; and three grandchildren, Julian,

Kenneth (Debbie) Brumfield; four daughters, Marcella (David) Jones,
Lorraine Baker, Shelia (Mark) Conroy and Cassandra (Charles) Lucas; two
brothers, Virgil (Iola) Brumfield and Conway Brumfield; a sister, Nettie
Bell Brock; and a host of other relatives and friends.Visitation will be

Sunjean Nichols and Elnor Shorter, all of Houston, TX; two brothers-in-law,

survived by a sister, Beulah Bickham Manning of Warrenton; a special niece,
Helen Bickham James of Mt. Hermon; and a host of nieces, nephews and other
relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband; mother and father, Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Bickham; and 20 brothers and sisters. Visitation will be
tomorrow from 4-6 p.m. at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home. The funeral is
Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Greater Hayes Creek Missionary Baptist Church with

Wilmer, AL and Kenneth D. Cates of DeRidder, LA; six grandchildren; two
sisters, Vera Galloway of Reserve, LA and Irene (James) Wilson of Kingwood,

Natchez, MS, Doy Cothern and Billy Cothern of Bogalusa; and a host of

Creel of Franklinton and Bonnie Jean Gerald of Pine; and numerous relatives

resident of Franklinton died last Sunday at Riverside Medical Center. She
was the widow of H.C. "Corky" Richardson and was Catholic.She is survived
by three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Nancy Richardson of Gilroy,
CA, Chess and Linda Richardson of Isabel and Michael and Cheryl Richardson
of Franklinton; four grandchildren, Jason, Joshua and Daniel Richardson and
Missy R. Graham; two great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Brody
Graham.Preceding her in death was her husband; and her parents, Harold and
Inez Ringel.Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home tomorrow from 6-9 p.m.
and will continue after 8 a.m. Thursday until the time of the funeral at 11

OSYKA, MS - Vera Reagan Wall, 83, a resident of Osyka, MS died yesterday at
Beacham Memorial Hospital in Magnolia. Mrs. Wall was born May 18, 1918 in
the Foxworth Community of Marion County, MS. She was the daughter of Walter
S. Reagan Sr. and Catherine Jones Reagan. She was a homemaker and had been
a resident of Osyka for over 45 years and was a member of Osyka Baptist
Church and the Eastern Star.She is survived by a sister, Billie R. Walsh of
Bogalsua; a brother,-in-law, Vincent A. Romano Sr. of Bound Brook, NJ; a
niece, Kathy Landry and her husband, John of Lafayette, LA; four nephews,
Charles "Chuck" Lane and his wife, Shelia of Alexandria, Tom Romano of
Bound Brook, NJ, Vincent Romano and wife, Beth of the Washington DC area
and Robert Romano of New York City; and numerous great nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends and her special canine companion Fifi.Preceding

Nell Ragland
Died September 5, 2001

BOGALUSA - Nell Ragland, 92, a resident of Montgomery Street, Bogalusa died
this morning. She was one month shy of her 93rd birthday. She had been a
resident of Bogalusa since she was a young girl when her family moved from
the Varnado area so her brothers could get work at the local mill and not
have to ride horses back and forth from Varnado. She was only seven years
old when her mother died and was raised by her brothers and sisters for the
most part. Her parents had 13 children. When Mattie, their mother, died a
decision was made to try to keep the family together with the older
children taking on more adult roles. The experience left an amazingly
strong sense of dedication to family in each of the children. Only one
child remains- Brown Simmons of Crockett, AR, who was born in 1914. In her
early childhood, Nell suffered severe ear infections and as a result, lost
most of her hearing. Even today's technology was unsuccessful in giving her
back her hearing due to the early damage. She was determined that her
hearing loss wasn't going to hold her back even though the prejudice was
very strong against her in a hearing world.In the 1930's when beauty shop
owners in Bogalusa were reluctant to hire a "hard-of-hearng" young girl to
join their businesses, she started her own shop, which quickly became one
of the most successful in Bogalusa. Beauty supply salesmen in latter years
often commented that Nell's Neauty Shop was the busiest one they dealt with
in Washington Parish. She loved her work so much she was still in her shop
when she was 90-years-old. Many in the beauty salon industry said that she
was the oldest working beautician in the country. She had customers who had
been with her for over 65 years. They were dear and valued friends.Nell and
Grover Ragland were wed in 1938, celebrating their 55 wedding anniversary
in 1993. Grover died that year.She is survived by sons, Skip Ragland and
wife Martha of Seven Lakes, NC, and Robin Ragland and wife Marsha of
Bogalusa; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother,
Brown Simmons of Crockett, Arkansas; and scores of nieces and nephews
around the country.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations
be made to Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, P.O. Box 4196, Monroe, LA
71211-9986; or the Bogalusa Christian Academy, 621 S. Columbia Street,

Church fro over 60 years and was retired from South Central Bell.She is
survived by a son, Wiley Hunt Jr. of Bogalusa; four grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.Preceding her in
death was her husband, Wiley Sammie Hunt Sr; and a daughter, Yvonne Hunt
Stupka.Visitation will be at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home today from 5-9 p.m.
and will continue tomorrow at 10 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. at

Hermon; his fathter, Jonas Ard Jr. of Dent, Minnesota; three sons, Joseph
Aaron Ard, Justin Daniel Ard, and Joshua Jerald Ard, all of Folsom; four
brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles M. Hardebeck of Mt. Hermon, Jebby and
Tina Ard of Enon, Joe Daniel and April Ard of Franklinton, and Jamie Ard of
El Paso, TX; a sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Danny Bradford of Mt.
Hermon; three nieces; two nephews; and numerous aunts and uncles including
Judy Vince of Kentwood.Preceding him in death was a brother, Edward Paul
Bourgeois; and his grandparents, Clyde and Quida Erwin, Jonas and Julia Ard

Road in Franklinton, died Thursday in St. Tammany Parish Hospital.He is
survived by his wife, Cheryln Partman; two daughters, Jerri Hart, both of
Franklinton, and Patricia Batiste of Beaumont, TX; a step-daughter,
Chiquita (Greg) Ardoin of Houston, TX; three sons, Timmy (Lorraine) Partman
of New Orleans, Terrence (Tarmecia) Partman, and Torrence Partman; a
step-son, Gary Bell, both of Franklinton; three sisters, Eva (James) Spikes

Darrick LaKeith Williams

ANGIE - Minister Darrick LaKeith Williams, 28, a resident of Bassfield, MS,
died last Thursday in a tragic car accident in Hattiesburg, MS. He is the
second son of Bro. John L. Williams and the late Sis. Linda Williams of
Angie. He was an employee of Coca-Cola in Hattiesburg and a member of
Bassfield Pentecostal Church. A 1991 VHS honor graduate, Williams was
characterized as an outstanding student. He attended Southern University in
Baton Rouge and the University of Southern Mississippi. His mission was to
witness, exhort, encourage, comfort, model unity and offer the salvation of
Christ to all. Indeed, all were blessed who heard what "thus said the Lord"
as he diligently ministered the word through the gift of the Holy Spirit.He
leaves to cherish his wonderful memories, his faithful wife, Sis. Latrice
A. Williams; two children, Aaliyah and Joshua Williams of Bassfield; his
father, Bro. John L. Williams; a brother, Kendrick Williams; his
grandparents, Hollie (Edgie) Peters, all of Angie; father-in-law, Jonnie
(Juanita) Nelson of Bassfield; five uncles and 11 aunts, Willie (Iness)
Peters, Donice Owens, Theresa Peters, all of Angie, Helen Weary of Varnado,

be held Friday at Bassfield Pentecostal Church, 474 K. Graves Road, in
Bassfield. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. and the services begin at noon.
Interment will follow at the Jefferson Cemetery in Angie. For anyone
interested in attending the Friday services, a local group will meet at
Little Village in Varnado and Sunflower Grocery in Angie at 9:30 a.m. car
pooling to Bassfield, MS.

BOGALUSA - Alvina (Ma-Ma Al) Lewis Dean, 81, a lifetime resident of S.
Roosevelt Street in Bogalusa died yesterday at her granddaughter's house on
Florence Avenue. She was known to all as "MaMa Al." She was a faithful
member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. Tom Baily Jr., pastor. She
loved the Lord, she loved the church, she loved her family and was a great
blessing in the lives of other families, neighbors and friends. She
fulfilled her God given purpose in the earth at the age of 81 and passed
from life to life in her sleep where she is now part of that great Cloud of
Witness. We all love her and will miss her. She is survived by her husband,
Dorris (Bubba) Dean; three daugthers, Doris penton of Bogalusa, Kathyrn

from Bogalusa High School in 1939 and accepted a position at Greenville
Spring Hospital. Here she met Cecil and they returned to Bogalusa where
they shared their 53 years of marriage. She was a devoted wife, mother and
grandmother who enjoyed life in her community and church. She was a life
long member of Superior Avenue Baptist Church where she was involved in
numerous activities. Her efforts in church, association and state wide
mission organization were immense joys in her life.She is survived by her
daughter and son-in-law, Cecilia and Clyde Lea James of Alexandria; and a
son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Russell and Mary Lou Richerson of Tucson, AZ;
five granddaughters, Cecil James of San Marias, TX, Celeste James of
Alexandria, Katie Lindsay and Madeline Richerson of Tucson, AZ; and a host

CLEMSON, SC - James Alexander Box, 84, a former resident of Bogalusa and
resident of Clemson, SC died Saturday in Oconnee Hospital in South
Carolina. Box was born March 24, 1917 in Quitman, MS to James A. and Gay
Holcomb Box- now deceased. He received his education at Bogalusa High
School and at Mississippi State University. During World War II, he played
an important role as an area supervisor at Oak Ridge, TN where the first
atom bomb was developed. Following the war years, Box was employed by Crown
Zellerbach Corporation as an engineer and power plant supervisor.While in
Bogalusa, Box was a member of Superior Avenue Baptist Church, where he
served as an active deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a talented
artist who enjoyed painting, photography, woodworking and music, and was a
member of the Washington Parish Art Association and the Milltown
Players.During the last fourteen years following his retirement, Box lived
in Clemson, SC where he was an active member of First Baptist Church and an
adult Sunday School teacher.He is survived by his brother, Benton Holcomb
Box Sr. and sister-in-law, Sallie Yates Box of Clemson, SC; two nephews,
Benton H. (Renee C.) Box Jr. of Columbia, SC and John W. (Jan B.) Box of

University class of 1955. She continued her teaching career in the New
Orleans Public School System and retired in 1998 after 43 years as an
educator. She leaves to mourn her passing, her children, Byron B. Johnson,
