All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ The Era-Leader – 28 May 1997 Mr. Joseph Gladney Shedd, 89, a resident of the Clifton Community died at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 21 at Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Covington. He was born on July 27, 1907 the sixth child of Jenny and Jonathan Rabb Shedd in Monticello, SC, he graduated from high school in Chattanooga, TN and attended Clemson University receiving a degree in Textile Engineering in 1929. He was first employed in Chattanooga when he met and married Anne Lee Wotton on Feb 17, 1932. He was employed as an executive with several textile companies including Dixie Merchandising, Dan River Textiles, Lane Cotton Mill and Fulton Industries, During this time he taught Textile Management at George Washington High School and prepared a manuscript which was later published and used as a teaching guide for Textile Management. In 1971 he retired to Franklinton and joined the Clifton Baptist Church where he served actively on the board of deacons and numerous church committees. Mr. Shedd is survived by one daughter, Jo Ann Sykes of Mandeville, one son, Tom Shedd of Franklinton, ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Visitation was held at the Crain Funeral Home from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday and after 10 a.m. Friday. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 23 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ed Griffin officiating. Burial followed in the Ellis Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service were John Bienvenu, Paul Bienvenu, Michael Bienvenu, Harvey Bienvenu, Jr., Harvey Bienvenu, Sr., and Blandon Sorrell.
