Miley Dies of Stroke Sam Drefe Miley, 63-year old resident of Mileytown near Varnado, died at the Desporte Clinic of a stroke, which he suffered on Monday. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Miley Cemetery. Interment was in the same cemetery with Brown Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Miley, who was a farmer, was a member of one of the oldest and best known families in Washington Parish, and had been a leader in his community for a number of years. He is survived by two sons, Herman and Prentiss, both of Varnado; three daughters, Mrs. Albert Spencer and Mrs. Denman Dillon, both of Franklinton, and Mrs. Maurice Sheridan of Varnado; five brothers, Joe, Morris, Morgan, Luther and Y. M. “Doc” Miley, all of Varnado; and three sisters, Mrs. G. W. Nobles, Mrs. R. R. Fussell and Mrs. William Temples, all of Varnado. Mr. Miley is also survived by 14 grandchildren. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bogalusa Enterprise, Bogalusa, LA 09-09-1949 Thomas Bush Died Monday Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. for Thomas Felton Bush, 52, of Isabel, who died Monday at 9:10 p.m. at his home after an illness of two weeks. Interment was in Isabel Cemetery with the Poole Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Bush is survived by four brothers, Nathan and Walter of Bogalusa; Robert of Isabel and Theodore of Jackson, Miss.; four sisters, Mrs. S. E. Schillings of Bogalusa, Mrs. J. B. Thompson and Mrs. G. Sharpe Buried Monday Thomas Early Sharpe, 76, of the Covington Lee Road, died at his home at 8:20 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services were conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at the Mary Etta Cemetery on the Bush-Folsom road. Mr. Sharpe is survived by his widow, Mrs. Margaina Sharpe; four children, Mrs. Ola Balston, Luther, Willie and Varnado Sharpe, all of the Lee Road. Cook, 70-year-old brother of Charlie Cook of this city, died last Thursday in Morgan City. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday from the chapel of the Poole Funeral Home. Brumfield Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday for Fred Delos Brumfield, 70-year-old native of Washington Parish who died at his Franklinton home at 1:15 p.m. Monday. The funeral was held at the Franklinton Baptist Church with the Rev. J. W. Passman officiating. Interment was in the Magee cemetery with Poole Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Brumfield is survived by four sons, Dorman and Alvin of Toledo, Ohio, Shirley of Baton Rouge, and George of Bogalusa; five daughters, Mrs. Shelton McGehee of Bogalusa, Mrs. Harold Blanchard of Baton Rouge, Mrs. Nolan Sumrall of Franklinton, Mrs. R. Funeral services were conducted at the chapel of Brown Funeral Home at 4 p.m. Sunday. Interment was in McGehee cemetery. The deceased is a veteran of World War II, and the VFW conducted military rites at the graveside. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles McNeese of Varnado; one brother, Gary McNeese of Varnado; five sisters, Mrs. Myrtis Flynn of Varnado, Mrs. Doris Coleman of Baton Rouge, Mrs. Gladys Nastasi and Mrs. Joyce Taylor both of Bogalusa, and Miss Shirley McNeese of Varnado. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bogalusa Enterprise, Bogalusa, LA 09-16-1949 Mrs. John Gulotta Buried on Sunday Mrs. John Gulotta, one of Bogalusa’s best known residents, died at the Pepe Clinic at 8:46 a.m. Saturday after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Gulotta was admitted to the clinic on Thursday. At the time of her death, she was 73 years of age. Mrs. Gulotta, who resided at 425 Long avenue, had been a resident of this city for more than 42 years. She was the widow of the late John Gulotta, who was a pioneer settler in this area, and well known throughout the parish. Survivors include seven daughters, Mrs. Leon Fontana, Mrs. Sam Saltaformaggio, Mrs. Tannie Fiorenza, Mrs. Mary Johnson, Mrs. R. J. Cruthirds, all of Bogalusa, and Jules LeBreton and Mrs. Jules Trepagnier, of New Orleans; one brother, Tom Margiotta of Bogalusa; two sisters, Mrs. Nick Timpa of Lake Charles and Mrs. Tony Latino of New Orleans. Mrs. Gulotta is also survived by 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Poole’s Funeral Home and at the Church of the Annunciation, with the Rev. Fr. Hubert Bordenave, O.S.B., officiating. Interment was in Ponemah Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bogalusa Enterprise, Bogalusa, LA 09-23-1949 Hundreds Attend Williams Funeral Hundreds of Bogalusans paid final tribute to Miss Eva Williams, life-long resident of this city, on Tuesday when funeral services were conducted at the family residence on Fifth Street. Miss Williams’ death came as a shock to family members and to her many friends. She died at 1:05 a.m. Monday of a heart attack. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Russell McIntire, associate pastor of First Baptist Church, who was assisted by the Rev. W. E. Watkins and the Rev. A. C. Ingram. Interment was in Ponemah Cemetery with Poole Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Miss Williams had been in ill health for some three months, but had continued to work at P. W. Lindsley Motor Co. on Austin Street until last Thursday. She was active in civic and church affairs, having been a member of the Business and Professional Women’s club for a number of years. She was in charge of the music at the First Baptist Church, of which she was a long-time member. Miss Williams worked as secretary to E. B. Flaherty at the Sullivan Memorial Trade School for a number of years before accepting the position at Lindsley’s. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. A. C. Williams of Fifth St., three brothers, Hines of Bogalusa, Hobson of Gueydan and Harvey of St. Louis, Mo. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bogalusa Enterprise, Bogalusa, LA 09-23-1949 Mrs. P. Runfalo’s Mother Buried Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Pettitt Memorial Baptist Church for Mrs. Ruby Hanberry, 58 mother of Mrs. Pete Runfalo of this city. The Rev. J. M. Stuart officiated. Mrs. Hanberry died Saturday in a New Orleans hospital after an illness of four years. She had visited relatives here on a number of occasions before her illness and was well-known in this vicinity. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Runfalo of this city; two sons, E. F. Hanberry of New Orleans, and R. W. Hanberry of Marrero; three brothers, A. W. Frey of Bogalusa, Sidney of New Orleans and frank Frey of Republic, Wash.; two sisters, Mrs. E. M. Myles, 38, of Franklinton, died at his home at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday. Mr. Myles had been employed on a construction project in Bogalusa, and was recuperating from an operation. His death came suddenly. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. today at the family residence with the Rev. T. W. Gayer officiating. Interment was in Magee Cemetery with the Poole-Simmons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Clara Myles, one daughter, Miss Sara Myles, two brothers, Delma and T. J. Myles, and one sister, Mrs. G. C. Interment was in Fisher cemetery with Poole-Simmons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The deceased is survived by her husband, Shelton Erwin of Franklinton; one son, William, two daughters, Cora Lee and Gayle, both of Franklinton. Miller Dies in Hospital O. C. Miller, 36, Mt. Hermon died last Thursday night at the Wathall Hospital in Tylertown on the operating table . Mr. Miller is survived by his widow, Mrs. Laura Alford; one son, Harold Wesley; one daughter, Bertie Ree, all of Mt. Hermon; one brother, Olan Miller of Franklinton; two sisters, Mrs. Jimmy Fussell of Franklinton and Mrs. Johnny Bankston of Mt. Hermon; three half-brothers, Pink, Otis and Ollie Miller, all of Mt. Hermon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bogalusa Enterprise, Bogalusa, LA 09-30-1949 Mrs. Lavinghouse Died Suddenly Mrs. Mamie Lott Lavinghouse, 46, died at 7:10 p.m. Saturday at the Bogalusa Medical Center only five and a half hours after admission with a heart attack. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. H. L. Courtney officiating. Interment was in Ponemah Cemetery with Poole Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Lavinghouse is survived by her husband, Morris Lavinghouse, three sons, Morris, Jr., Richard Glen and Harold of Bogalusa, and one daughter, Mrs. S. L. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. at the Church of Christ at Bush. Interment was in Grantham Cemetery with Poole Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Penton is survived by two sons, Marvin and James Oscar Penton, Both of Bush; six daughters, Mrs. Theodore Edwards and Mrs. Bennie Mahan, both of Ponchatoula, Mrs. Ernestine Kranjager and Mrs. Mary Kranjager, Misses Bobbie Jean and Minnie Pearl Penton, all of Bush. She is also survived by her mother, Mrs. Dessie Foy, also of Bush.
