He served under Gov. Willam. C.C Claiborne, Col. Warner and Capt. Bickham in the 13th regiment, LA Militia, in the war of 1812. Nathan served on a foward position on picket guard. The British decided to drag their canons and equipment through miles of swamp, giving Andrew Jackson time to make a defensive position in Chalmette.
