Rathbun was born and reared and has spent a very active life in the City of Minden, and at the present time is clerk of the District Court of Webster Parish.He was born at Minden in 1887, son of Morris and Lucy (Hadley)Rathbun. His father, a direct descendant of the John Alden family ofMassachusetts, was born in New Jersey, and as a youth came toLouisiana shortly before the Civil war. He was a Confederate soldierthroughout that conflict, and after the war for many years was amerchant at Minden, where he died in 1889. His wife, Lucy Hadley,who died in 1916, was born at Cheneyville, and was related to thewell- known Stafford family of Rapides Parish.G. A. Rathhun was two years of age when his father died. After aneducation in local schools he had an extended experience employedin mercantile concerns and for several years was in business forhimself. For five years he held the office of deputy clerk of theDistrict Court, and in January, 1924, was elected clerk, taking up hisofficial duties on the 9th of April in the same year.Mr. Rathhun in addition to his participation in the public affairs of theparish has given much of his time to the Methodist Episcopal Church. He is a steward of the First Methodist Church at Minden, lay leaderin the church and assistant lay leader for the Minden District, issuperintendent of the intermediate senior Sunday school departmentof the Ruston district, and is secretary and treasurer of the WebsterParish Sunday School Association. Mr. Rathbun married Miss GraceChaffe, of Minden. Their two children are: Charles Alden and Grace Virginia. A History of Louisiana, (vol. 2), p. 167, by Henry E. Chambers.
