One of the graduates was from Morehouse—Miss Mary Alice Callen. The college is said to be in a very flourishing condition. Morehouse Clarion September 10, 1880 -- Page 2, Column 4 A man by the name of Grider invited to his home, in Webster parish, recently, a man by the name of Waggoner, who was drunk. After supper the two men disagreed, and the host was forced to killed (sic) his guest in order to save his and his wife’s lives, Grider has been tried and acquitted. Waggoner was a dangerous character when under the influence of whiskey. Morehouse Clarion September 25, 1880 -- Page 2, Column 4 Dr. J. S. Bacon, an aged, skillful and esteemed physician of Webster, died at his home in that parish last week. Morehouse Clarion July 29, 1881 -- Page 1, Column 6 Webb Gamble and Frank Elkins of Webster parish while on the road home, had difficulty. Gamble shot Elkins, who died from his wounds the next day. They were brothers-in-law; Elkins having married Gamble's sister. The deceased left a widow and five little orphans. Morehouse Clarion April 22, 1881 -- Page 2, Column 4 The wife of the editor of the Minden Democrat, Mrs. Mary E. Schneider, died very suddenly last week of congestion of the lungs. Morehouse Clarion September 9, 1881 -- Page 2, Column 5 Miss Mattie Williams, one of the most charming young ladies of Minden, died in that town recently. Morehouse Clarion September 23, 1881 -- Page 2, Column 5 A man by the name of Lemons killed Mr. H. L. Cox in Webster parish the other day. Lemons was a tenant on Cox's place. He shot Cox to death in cold blood. He was at large when we last heard from him.
