All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Mary McDowell Wilkie MINDEN, LA - Mary Mc Dowell Wilkie, 89 of Minden, LA and a life-long resident of Ringgold, LA died Sunday, October 7, 2007 at Life Touch Hospice in El Dorado, AR following a brief illness. Mrs. Wilkie born September 18, 1918, in Bienville Parish, LA was the daughter of Walter and Jennie Corry McDowell. Mrs. Wilkie was a graduate of Henderson State Teacher's College and received a Master's degree in music. She was a music teacher in the Louisiana Public School System in Castor and Ringgold and retired after 40 years of teaching. Mrs. Wilkie had been the organist and choir director at First United Methodist Church in Ringgold and recently retired as organist at Lakeview United Methodist Church in Minden, LA. During her music career, she was associated with many churches throughout Louisiana and Arkansas. Preceding her in death along with her parents were the father of her children, Calvin Russell Wilkie; and her second husband, Elwood "Switch" Davis; a son, David Brad Wilkie; a brother, Walter 'Max' Mc Dowell; and sisters, Carmen Cook and Corry Jones Cook. Survivors include two sons, Rev. Mike Wilkie (Nancy) of Camden, AR and Bob Wilkie (Sandy) of Minden, LA; two brothers, Robert E. "Buddy" McDowell and O. G. "Laddie" McDowell both of Shreveport, LA. Also surviving are three grandchildren; Leah, Melissa, and John Wilkie all of Minden; and step grandchildren and great -grandchildren, Robert ( Nanette) Darden, and Mary Catherine; Rick (Janet) Warren, Josh and Caitlin; along with a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at Lakeview United Methodist Church in Minden with Rev. David Sheehan officiating. A private interment will follow in Providence Cemetery near Ringgold, LA under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of El Dorado, AR. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church and for a period of time after the services.
