E. Merrick (Exxon Mobile Refinery) died January 15, 2001 at Our Lady of The Lake Medical Center. Services were held Friday, January 19, 2001 at Mount Gillion Baptist Church with Elder Eric Shaffer officiating. He was laid to rest at Orange Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Desmond Lawson, Ernest James, Sr., Ernest James, Jr., Nat James, Edward James and Benny James. Survivors include his devoted wife, Linda Jackson James, three sons, Marcus Carla James Sr., Alton James III, and Donovan Kennedy; one adopted daughter, Mahajjah Mutakabbirg, three grandsons, Jamarcus, Alton III and Marcus James Jr.; mother, Rosa Lee Carter and devoted stepfather Eugene Carter; six sisters, Evelyn Cannon, Ethel Stewart, Mildred Lawson, Shirley Murphy, Margaret Batiste and Linda Carter; two brothers, Nat James and Edward James; devoted father-in-law Isiah Jackson. He is preceded in death by his father, Alton James, Sr., grandparents Mildred and Nat Murray, Clara and Doc James; brother Michael James; mother-in-law Luzzenia Lee Jackson and sister-in-law Shirley Robinson. EWING, BEVERLY T. A retired school teacher with 33 years of service with the Pointe Coupee Parish School Board and a resident of Batchelor, she died at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Pointe Coupee General Hospital, New Roads. She was 83 and a native of Morganza. Visiting at Niland's Funeral Home, New Roads, from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. LOCKETT, WILFRED A resident of Erwinville, he died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. He was 54. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. DAVIS, MICHAEL ANTHONY "PIT" A retired automobile mechanic and a resident of Plaquemine, he died at 6:20 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at his home. He was 49 and a native of Plaquemine.
