April 16, 1915 Mrs. Annie Grathwell, the beloved wife of Lou Grathwell, a member of the Village Council, departed this life at midnight last Friday after an illness of twelve days. On March 29th she was stricken with paralysis, and on April 4th she took meningitis which caused her death. She was born in Davis County, Ind., Feb. 10 1866, and was married July 3, 1888. A large concourse of sorrowing friends followed the remanins to their last resting place in Oak Grove Cemetery Saturday afternoon at 5 o'clock. None but those who have sat in the shadow of a great bereavemnt can justly weigh such a sorrow as this. Those who have gone down into the valley of suffering and stood for weeks by the side of a loved one, as hope after hope dropped away as the petals fall from a fading flower, know that such anquish cannot find solace in the tenderest words. She who has gone forth could not be supported on her solitary path by any earthly friend. The husband with a devotion a few men are capable of, whose strength was given sweetly, tenderly to this precious invalid, whose heroic devotion never faltered, could not detain her by the clasp of earthly love, but after the last word had been spoken, the last sign of recongnition was gone, a look of peace settled on her face which proclaimed victory, and he knew she was resting on a mightly arm. CARD OF THANKS, Words cannot express my appreciation of those friends who have shared with me the lonely vigils by the bedside of my beloved wife. No sweeter memory can live in any heart than the memory of their untiring devotion to the one who has just left me. The waves of sorrow break upon every shore, and we can but hope that friends as true may gather around each one of them should sorrow invade their homes. L. GRATHWELL.
