April 18, 1939 Funeral service for Cumberland Meredith Roberts, 75 who died at his residence near here Friday at 5:08 p.m., after a brief illness of pneumonia, was held Saturday afternoon, with the Rev. John R. Campbell, pastor of the Oak Grove Methodist Church; the Rev. W.D. Drummond, pastor of the Corley Nazarene Church; and the Rev. Z.T. Sullivan pastor of the Baptist Church at Forest. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. C.M. Roberts; three daughters, Mrs. Julia Chambliss of Forest, Mrs. Carol Overby of Oak Grove, and Mrs. Bliss Jones of Rayville; one son, J.C. Roberts of West Monroe; and seven grandchildren. The deceased had been ill for several years, but his immediate sickness prior to death lasted only three weeks. He had been a member of the Baptist Church since a youth, and had served as a deacon, as Sunday school superintendent and teacher. The deceased was born June 9, 1863, at West Monroe. He was married March 20, 1895 to Miss Mary Elna Evans of Alabama, in West Monroe. He had moved with his family to West Carroll parish 26 years ago, and had resided continuosly since in the present home near here.
