July 6, 1939 P.M. Green, 77, prominent West Carroll citizen, died at his home in Ward one near Epps at 11:30 p.m. Monday. His death was attributed to heart trouble. Funeral services were held yesterday from the family residence at 3 p.m., with the Rev. A.L. Rusell, pastor of the Lake Providence Baptist Church., officiating. Interment followed in the Midway cemetery. He is survived by his wife, two nieces, Mrs. J.J. Flake of Pioneer and Mrs. Ed Thomas of Texarkana, Ark. and other nieces and nephews living in Texas. Pallbearers were A.E. Shelton, Jesse Lusk, E.N. Neal, Ervin Cleveland, Wray Hillman, Buford Pace, Bill Felker and Roy Crow. Honorary pallbearers were P.J. Reed, R.V. Reeves, R.A. Skinner, Clyde Turner, Dr. B.L. Bailey, Dr. Nash Collins, O.B. Laird, John Hurt, Felix Colvit, John LeFevre and A.J. Sandifer. The deceased, affectionally known throughout as "Uncle Pete," was born in this parish, ward one, and had lived in its bounds - except for four years a resident of the state of Texas - during the entirety of his life. He was police juror from Ward one for more than 20 years and prior to the end of his tenure on the body, he was a number of years the oldest member of the parish governing body in point of service. Besides being a police juror he had previously served four years on the parish school board, prior to his election to the police jury. Aside from his parish official activities during his span of life, he was among West Carroll's most progressive farmers and business leaders. At the time of his death he was secretary-treasurer of Farmers' Gin company. Before bankruptey of the Macon Ridge Natinal bank of Delhi, he was one of the directors of the institution. The Gazette joins with citizens throughout West Carroll in mourning the loss of the lovable character who had devoted so many years of his life in the interest of and development of the parish.
