September 20, 1938 Final rites for the late John E. Moss, 51 year-old farmer who died at 3 p.m. yesterday at his home near Oak Grove, were conducted this afternoon with full miliary honors by the Catron-Kelly American Legion post of which the deceased was a member. The servces were held from the Robinson funeral chapel and continued at the Oak Grove Cemetery where the body was interred. The Rev. John R. Campell, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated at the brief service at the chapel. The deceased is survived by two daughters, Earline and Mildred Moss; two sons Earl and Edgar Moss; two brothers, Arthur and Elzie Moss; and three half sisters, Mrs. Ada Lee, Mrs. C.B. Thompson, and Miss Opal Moss. As the flag-draped casket was lowered into the grave, a volley of shots were fired over the body, and "Taps" were sounded by Buddy Grasby. Members of the legion post serviced as honorary pallbearers with Legionnaires, D.W. McBride, L.L. James, E.E. Hurley, W.A. Dodd, Thomas H. Vining, Arthur Defee, B. Boyte, and Wade Hampton serving as active pallbearers. The deceased, who had been in ill health for a number of years was born on April 30, 1887 in Illinois. He had been a resident of West Carroll Parish since 1906, moving here from Missouri.
