June 22, 1939 Funeral services for James M. McRanie 47 year-old painter who lived near here on the Bayou Macon, were conducted with full military honors today from the Legion hut at 2:30 p.m. and continued at the Oak Grove Cemetery. The veteran died Tuesday night about nine o'clock in the veterans hospital at Alexandria following a cerebral hemorrhage. The services were conducted by members of the Catron-Kelly American Legion post of which he was a member. The Rev. E.B. Emmerich, pastor of the Oak Grove Methodist Church, officiated during the rites at the hut, with members of the post conducting formal military services at the grave. He is survived by his wife and one brother, W.L. McRanie of Hattiesburg, Miss. Pall bearers were, K. Womack, Mark Bowan, Allie Beckworth, D.W. McBride, L.L. James and Wilson Delrio. The volley of shots was fired over the grave by a squad consisting of H. Philley, W.H. Kilgo, E.C. Hough, R. Richbourg, W. Sanders and B. Boyte. Color guards were W.S. Pollard and V. Allen with E.E. Hurley and Wade Hampton acting as color bearers. Arden B. Smith, fifth district legion commander, and D.B. Fiske commander of the local post, were in charge of the services at the cemetery.
