August 12, 1914 Notice to our Subscribers. Next Sunday morning we will leave for New Orleans to attend the 35th annual meeting of the Lousiana Press Association which convenes in that city on the 10-11. On the morning of the 12th we will sail on the S.S. Heredia for Panama and will be absent until about the 30th In order to make this trip it was necessary that we set up and print this week three extra insusues of the paper as we did not want to miss an issue during our absence. They will a good deal of local and editorial matter, but of course will contain no personal items. Upon our return home we will give a full write up of the trip which we assure you will be quite interesting. Mesdames B.F. White and W.R. Redmond; Miss Lillian Long and our daughter Edith and "Uncle Tommy" Landfair will go with us to visit the big ditch. During our absence, Mr. C.C. Madden will look after the Gazette and he is authorized to receive monies and receipt for same. PERSONAL ARITHMATIC The boy that by addition grows, And suffers no substraction, Who multiplies the things he knows, And carries every fraction, Who well divides his precious time, The due proportion giving To sure success aloft will climb, Interest compound receiving. A light shower fell Monday. Mrs. G.D. Hunter and daughter returned Sunday from a visit to relatives in Stephenson, Ala., and Chattanooga, Tenn. Mr. Oliver Berry, aged 76 years died at the home of his brother last Saturday of dropsy and was buried in the Williamson graveyard on Boeuff River. A protracted meeting will begin in the Methodist Church here Friday night, Aug. 14. Rev. v.D. Skipper , an eloquent preacher from Tallulah, will assist Bro. Purcell in the meeting. Everybody is invited. The young people of Pioneer, will give a big dance on Wednesday, August 12. this will be the best dance ever given in the parish. The famous Budd, Scott band of Natchez, will furnish music for the occasion. Mr. Charles Wyly came over from Lake Providence last Friday afte his daughter Miss Ethel, who has been spending a few days near Pioneer with Grady Wyly and family. Mrs. W.J. Wyly came over last Sunday to spend a week with her son and family. Mrs. N.W. Yerger, of Pioneer, entertained for several days last week at a house party in honor of Miss Ethel Pullen, of Crowley, and Misses Thira Harvey and Inez Shelton, and Hill reynolds and Jim Yerger, of Lake Village. The Floyd jail now has only one boarder, a white man by the name of Goin. Lee Tullos has just finished serving his term out for selling whiskey.
