Carroll Banner August 14, 1890
    Last Saturday night Lafayette Hendon Long of Floyd was shot and killed 
instantley by his brother in law Wilford Jackson.  It seems that Long came 
into the store with expressed intention of killing Jackson, but he was too 
quick for him, and shot him through the heart with a winchester rifle.  Long 
was a bad man and his death does not seem to create  much regret
