September 11th. 1861, Francis Lydia, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Samuel Francis Calvit, aged 6 years, and eight days. This babe was born in Yazoo County, Mississippi, September 3rd. 1855, and was spared just long enough to become the idol of her parents, and many relatives and friends, for it was a by-word by all "that none knew her but to love her." It was our painful duty to have to assemble around her dying couch and administer to her little wants, and see the vital spirit flutter and hover around her devoted head, as if unwilling to quit a tenement it had so long inhabited. But it was pleasing to see portrayed upon her little countenance an expression of an angel, and that she is at this time "pillowed upon a Savior's breast" This expression was so striking that it seemed to be held out as a beacon to guide her parents and friends to a better sphere, so as to meet her upon Canaan's happy shore. Farewell sweet little girl, you have left behind you, a mother and father, and other dear kindred, to mourn your loss; and you have left to many sweet little reminiscences to place indelibly upon their hearts a memory for their little child. Parents and Relatives: It is sweet to know, what is your loss in parting from this child "is her eternal gain." B. (Vicksburg Whig & Sun please copy) Kay McMahan Noska~1999 (my G-Grandmothers sister)
