All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** DERRICK RITES HELD The funeral of William Pittman Derrick, 67, who died at his home in Pioneer at 8 o'clock Sunday night after an illness of a week, was held at the residence of his son, W.F. Derrick, Monday at 2 p.m. The Rev. A.D. St. Amant,Jr., pastor of the Pioneer Methodist charge, officiated. Interment was in the Forest Cemetery. Mr. Derrick was a member of an old and prominent Mississippi family. He was born October 27, 1871. In early manhood he became a member of the Luthern church of Trenton, Miss. He was married to Miss Laura E. Duke, member of another prominent Mississippi family. In Nov. 1916 Mr. Derrick, with his family, moved to Pioneer where he entered in the mercantile business. His son W.F. Derrick, is postmaster at Pioneer. While of a retiring nature, Mr. Derrick was highly regarded by all who came in contact with him in a social or business way. He was considered one of the most outstanding business men of Pioneer. He was always interested in all that concerned civic and industrial welfare of the community. Attesting their esteem for Mr. Derrick was the presence at the funeral of friends and business associates who came not only from Pioneer and vicinity but also from Monroe and other towns. Mr. Derrick is survived by his widow, three sons and three daughters: Will Derrick, Clem Derrick, Pioneer; Clyde Derrick, Monroe; Mrs. Gale Thompson and Mrs. Velma Crosby, Pioneer; Mrs. Lillian Glaze, Forest, Miss; three brothers, Lee Derrick, St. Joseph; Dr. Henry Derrick, Dewitt, Ark., and S.B. Derrick of Trenton, Miss.; and four sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Wooley, Mize, Miss., Mrs. Nannie Barber, Jackson, Miss., Mrs. Nola Penn, Mt. Olive, Miss, and Mrs. Oletha Hord, Raleigh, Miss.; 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
