KILLED IN ACTION; BURIED ON ENIWETOK Corporal Joseph R. Harper Jr. USMC, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Harper of Forest community, was killed in action in the Marshall Islands campaign, February 18, according to a letter received this week by Mr. and Mrs, Harper from headquarters of the US Marine Corps, Washington. "Your son's remains were buried in grave 5, lot 1 American Cemetery, Eniwetok atoll, Marshall Islands" the letter read. The West Carroll marine, 27 years old, had been in service nearly four years, serving overseas approximatly two years of that time. Besides his parents he is survived by two brothers, Jack L. Harper of Ruston and William Benford Harper of Shreveport; five sisters, Mrs. Ruby Kelly of Vicksburg, Miss., Mrs. Bernice McLean and Miss Oma Doris Harper of Forest, Mrs. Lila Short of North Carolina, and Miss Nannette Harper of New Orleans; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H.M. Burke of near Forest.
