HERRING DIES AT HOME HERE LAST MIDNIGHT Robert J. Herring, 68 years old, 12 years sheriff of West Carroll Parish, succumed at his home here this morning at 12:30 o'clock, after suffering from aparalythe condition that made him an invalid for more than four years. Funeral services have been arranged to be held at his home Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock, interment following in Parker Cemetery near Gowan Spur, the Rev. Howard F. Pfost, pastor of Oak Grove charge of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, will be in charge. Active and honorary pall bearers will be according to his brother, J.D. Herring, here R.V. Reeves, Clyde Turner, Dr. W. McG.Dollerhide, Jno. R. McIntosh, Dr. T.N. Pulley, T.O. Mitchiner, Holmes Mitchiner, Marvin Lipp. R.F. Cummings, W.H. Reneau, Andrew Jackson, Geo. A. Schrock, H.J. Long, Geo. W. Long, W.A. Ross, and R.W. Shilling. Mr. "Bob" as he was addressed by the marjority of people who knew hime was stricken with paralysis in July 1931 and since that time has been confined to his bed or wheel chair, under physicians and nurses care. His condition had grown more serioous several weeks before death. The youngest sheriff in Louisiana at the time Mr. Herring was elected West Carroll sheriff and tax collector in 1892 and served a four year term. His brother J.D. Herring succeded him as sheriff from 1896 through 1916. During that time he was a deputy sheriff. In 1916 Mr. "Bob" was re-elected sheriff and tax collector, and he served in that office until 1924, when he retired from office. He was a native of West Carrroll, his birth date being April 20, 1867. And his birth place was "Old" Floyd. His parents, Dr. and Mrs. John S. Herring, moved to this parish before the Civil War from Hines County, Miss. Dr. Herring died in 1890 and Mrs. Herring succumbed in 1924. On Oct. 9, 1912 Mr. Herring married Miss Estelle Hedrick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Hedrick of "Old" Floyd. Mr. and Mrs. Herring moved to Oak Grove from "Old" Floyd in 1917, following removal of the parish courthouse to Oak Grove in 1916. Survivors ar, besides his wife and a brother here, two sisters, Mrs. Hattie H. Black and Mrs. Annie Birdsong, both of Jackson, Miss.
