Carroll Banner-  August     1890
Last Saturday night Layette Long of Floyd was shot and killed instantley by 
his brother-in-law Jackson.  It seems that Long came into the store with 
expressed intention of killing Jackson, but he was too quick for him, and shot 
him and through the heart with a Winchester rife.  Long was a bad man and his 
death does not seem to create much regret
