Thomas Killed in Action Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Thomas of Fiske-Union community this week recieved a confirmation letter to a telegram that they recieved last week from the adjutant generals offic, Washington advising that their son, Technical Sergeant James T. Thomas, 21 years old, radio operator and gunner on one of Uncle Sam's heavy bombers,"was reported missing in action". The letter, signed by J.A. Ulio major general, reads in part: " It is my distressing duty to confirm the recent telegram informing you of the death of your son, Technical Sergeant James T. Thomas 18,134,027, air corps, near Gadaquez, Spain. An official casualty report states that Sergeant Thomas was missing in action over Spain since December 6, 1943. There has been submitted to the war department official information which is considered sufficient evidence to establish the fact that your son was killed in action on the date that he was previously reported missing in action, and it has been officially so entered on the records of the war department. I realize the burden of anxiety has been yours since your son was first reported missing in action, and deeply regret the sorrow this later report brings to you. May the knowledge that he made the supreme sacrifice in defense of his home and country be a source of sustaining comfort ot you." Young Thomas entered the army air corps service in June, 1942, and had been overseas since June 1943. The above picture of him was made in his R.O.T.C. uniform at Louisiana State University shortly prior to his entering the service.
