All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** DEATH OF RAY TYSON CONFIRMED BY NAVY Death of Robert (Ray) Tyson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emory Tyson of the Roundhill Community was amoung the casualities confirmed by the U.S. Navy in the first National List this week. He was killed aboard the U.S.S Arizona in the atack on Pearl Harbor. The death was previously reported by the Gazette, but without official verification. Ray attended Forest High School, where he was an outstanding football player. Before joining the Navy in June, 1940, he was employed by Oak Grove Utilities Corporation. Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife the former Miss Wilma Pollard of Oak Grove, an infant daughter, Katherine Mae Tyson, a brother Carroll Tyson of Oak Grove, three sisters, Mrs. B. Carroll, Miss B. Tyson and Mrs. C. McIntyre all of near Oak Grove. He held the rank of Fire Controlman, 3rd Class, and was stationed on the U.S.S. Arizona. The other Parish casuality reported in the war so far was Willie D. Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.G. Miller of Fiske-Union Community, who was killed in action on board the U.S.S. Houston in the battle of Java. His parents recieved notice of his death on March 7, 1941.
