                     BERTIE MAE VARNER

Bertie Mae Varner, 94, Oak Grove, passes away Friday, January 24, 2003,
at Carroll Nursing Home.

Funeral services were held at Cox Chapel Sunday, January 26, 2003 at 
4 p.m., with the Rev. Gayle Riles officiating. Interment followed in
Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Mrs. Varner is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, B.F. and June
Varner, Oak Grove; Charles L. and Jo Varner, Willis, Texas; daughter
and son-in-law, Marlene Slayter Herndon and James Herndon, Rock Hill,
S.C.; brother Clyde Pevytoe, Cresent City, Ca.; sister, Eva Lee Atkins, 
Columbia, Mo.; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Varner of Eudora, Ark.; father, Charlie Alexander Harper; and mother, Fannie Abernathy.

Pallbearers were Tommy Jones, Ed Bains, Joel House, Randy Gregory, 
Dennis Seamans and Pop Crosby.
