JIMMY DALE YATES, 63 Cox Funeral Home Oak Grove, Louisiana OAK GROVE - Funeral services for Mr. Jimmy Dale Yates, age 63, of Oak Grove, Louisiana will be held 2PM, Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at the Thomas Jason Lingo Center in Oak Grove, Louisiana. Reverends Johnny Rogers and L. H. McCollough will officiate. Burial will follow in the Beulah Cemetery in the Fiske Union Community near Oak Grove. Services are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Oak Grove. Mr. Yates died Saturday, May 2, 2009 at West Carroll Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness. Jimmy was a 45 year employee of Northeast Louisiana Power Cooperative where he began his career as a public servant of his community, parish, and state. He began as a lineman and later served as superintendent of operations at the Winnsboro, Louisiana corporate office. He was an outstanding leader of men. He worked diligently to improve the local coop system and to restore power whenever it failed. He also led dedicated crews into disaster areas across the south to help communities rebuild their lives. He served the power coop in so many areas including as President of the Superintendent and Foreman Association of Louisiana. Jimmy proudly served his country in the Vietnam War in 1966-1967. This was just one of the examples of his never-ending willingness to take a stand for what is right and good. He proudly proclaimed daily his faith in God and shared this often with his co-workers, friends and family. He was a life long member of Beulah Baptist Church. He was a member and current Master of the Masonic Lodge # 284 in Oak Grove and past District Deputy, Grand Master of the state of Louisiana. He also was a member of the Scottish Rite and Barak Shriners of Monroe, Louisiana. He was past president of Morehouse Shriners Club. He served on the Board of Directors of West Carroll Health System and Fiske Union Water System. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Zina Yates of Oak Grove; son and daughter-in-law, James Darrell Yates and Cheryl Yates of West Monroe, Louisiana; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Clint Yates and Jennifer Yates of Henderson, Nevada; son, Douglas Bryan Yates of Fort Drum, New York; 2 granddaughters, Annabelle Lee Yates and Sydnee Morgan Yates of West Monroe; 5 beloved "grand dogs", Abby, Daizi, Zephyr, Perk and Sarge. He is survived by his mother, Mary Yates of Oak Grove; sister and brother-in- law, Mary Frances Sims and James Sims of Bastrop, Louisiana; sister and brother-in-law, Patsy O'Grady Smart and Tommy Smart of Farmerville, Louisiana; sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl T'wanna Magee and Billy Magee of West Monroe; sister and brother-in-law, Lisa Ann Crymes and Ronnie Crymes of Oak Grove; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wayne Grubbs and Joyce Grubbs of Oak Grove and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and co-workers of Northeast Power Cooperative whom he loved like family. He is preceded in death by his father, Charlie Ford Yates; his brothers, James Herman Yates and Charlie "Mack" Yates, and his father-in-law and mother-in- law, Ernest Miley and Annie Ruth Miley. Jimmy Dale Yates was a wonderfully loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, friend and servant to more people than you can ever imagine. He will be missed more than words can ever describe. To say we loved him doesn't compare to the love he shared with us and so many others. Family will receive friends on Monday between the hours of 3 to 9PM and Tuesday between the hours of 9AM to 9PM at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove. Planned memorials may be made to the Emily Grace Fund at West Carroll Community Bank of Oak Grove, Louisiana. Emily is a Shiner's Hospital patient from Oak Grove who is in need of speacialty therapy.
