Walter C. Flower, president of the New Orleans cotton exchange, and member of the cotton
factorage firm of Flower & King, is a native of the Pelican state, his birth occurring in the
parish of East Feliciana, in 1850.  His father, Richard Flower, was a prominent planter of the
state and was also extensively engaged in the cotton business in the city of New Orleans.  Mr.
Flower was educated in the Pass Christian college, from which he graduated, also in the law
department of the Tulane university.  He spent some time as a journalist and in the practice of
his profession, and in 1880 engaged in his present sphere of industry to which he has since
devoted his attention.  In 1880 he was elected presidential elector at large for Louisiana, has
ever taken an active interest in the advancement of his city and state, and December 7, 1891,
was elected president of the cotton exchange by the unanimous choice of the organization.
Aside from his business in this line, he has been from time to time connected with many of the
commercial organizations of his city.
