November 13, 1897 St. Francisville, West Feliciana Parish, La., Saturday, November 13, 1897, Vol. VI. -- No. 40 Tally Brown Killed by Dr. Walker Two white men, Dr. R. L. Walker, aged 28 years, and Tally Brown, 35 years, both men of families and two respectable citizens, got into a dispute Saturday morning at Loyd's bridge in Rapides parish, about rent matters, as Dr. Walker was renting from Tally Brown at the place of the killing, Brown was killed by Dr. Walker. R. L. Walker, accompanied by his son, Dr. Walker, went to Alexandria at 8 o'clock Saturday. Dr. Walker made a voluntary surrender and is now in jail and claims that he killed Tally Brown in self defense, as Brown was advancing on him. The father told a correspondent that he could not tell anything of the particulars.
