Wiley Jones, Another Unopposed PJ Member

Wiley E. Jones, Ward Four timber contractor, is completing his first term as
police juror from that ward, and is entering his second term without
opposition.

Mr. Jones was born and reared in Winn Parish, and stated this week that he has
found no better place than Winn Parish to live and rear a family.  He has
seven children.

Contracts For Mansfield

At present, the Ward Four police juror has two trucks hauling, a winch loader,
and two log teams, as his equipment.  He contracts cutting and hauling timber
to Mansfield Hardwood Lumber Company in Winnfield.

Previously, he worked directly for Mansfield, and before this, contracted
logging.

He has lived in Winn Parish continuously since 1925.

Mr. Jones said, "I have tried it several places, but Winn Parish is the
best place I've found anywhere to live and raise my family."

After coming back to Winn in 1925, Mr. Jones was engaged in truck farming,
raising sweet potatoes and cabbage plants.  In 1934 he began contracting
logging.

He has 270 acres of land, about 50 acres of which is under pasture.  Much of
his land is denuded timber land, and is reseeding.  Mr. Jones cooperates with
the Soil Conservation Service in pasture improvement, and timber growing.

The Jones have seven children, five boys and two girls.  They are: Durwood,
in the logging business; Wayman, married, lives in Arcadia, shop foreman for
Arcadia Motor Company; Olan, married, with two children, served two years in
Coast Guard, presently employed as engineer with Mahoney Construction Co.,
Portsmouth, Ohio; Delbert, employed with Anderson-Dunham, Winnfield, married,
has one daughter, served two years in paratroopers; Earline, married, two
children, lives in Arcadia; Laverne, the youngest daughter, employed with
Louisiana Ordnance Plant, Minden; Rodger, youngest child, a senior at Dodson
High School.

All except two have graduated from Dodson High School.

Mr. Jones has served one term as president of the parish police jury.  Under
his leadership, the first canning kitchen in the parish, at Cypress Creek, was
started.

He stated that as much heavy hauling as he has done, and is doing, over Winn
Parish roads, he feels that he is qualified to serve as police jury member.

"I appreciate the courtesy and cooperation of the people in my ward, and the
parish, for electing me a second term without opposition," Mr. Jones said.

He stated he plans to continue improving the road system where necessity
deserves, and to see after all duties of the police jury to the best of his
knowledge.
