A. Colvin. He has kept a hostelry in advance of the town all the while. His splendid lumber house was consumed by fire last spring and he is now just completing a handsome three story brick at a cost of $ 60,000. It is the pride of the town and community and will prove a great boon to the traveling public. His family is from South Carolina. His father's name is A. H. Colvin and is a hale stout old man and frequently visits his son; he is, himself a choice spirit. He is a farmer and was born and reared in South Carolina. He married Mary Crosby in that State and a family of fourteen children has blessed his home and life. John was born in South Carolina Jan. 15, 1852 but they came to Louisiana 53 years ago so that he was only a babe. He was educated here and has lived his full life here. He married Miss Susan M. Ball, from Mississippi and eleven children have blessed their home, two of whom are dead. The are Baptist people and Mr. Colvin is a Knight of Pythias. Mr. Colvin is hospitable and kind and is a most excellent host. He says good roads and intensive farming are a necessity and are the hope of the country. His motto: "To do right, treat my fellowman fairly and to advance the interest of my country."
