Durham James Thomas Durham, Tax Assessor of Winn Parish, was born in Atlanta, Winn Parish, October 15, 1868. He is a son of J. L. Durham, whose engraving and sketch appears elsewhere in this issue. Mr. Durham was a prosperous farmer and the son was educated in the best schools the country afforded, in the common schools and Mt. Lebanon College. Oct. 21, 1891 he married Miss Malinda Payne, daughter of Rev. J. S. Payne. Mr. Durham moved to Winnfield some years since and has enjoyed good grace in the consideration of his countrymen. He was Parish Treasurer for four years and has been Tax Assessor three years and is now a candidate for reelection. He is Baptist, a Mason, Woodman, and Knight of Pythias. He has lived in Winn Parish all his life and when asked about her future replied no place has a brighter one. He also thinks we should have good roads at once and amazing development will follow. Motto: "What I find to do, do it." Bro. Durham is Pastor of the Baptist Church and was born in Winn Parish, Nov. 2, 1871. He was reared in the good old way in this section, attended the common schools, went to church, labored on the farm, fished and hunted, etc. Later he went to Keachie and then to Mt. Lebanon, where he graduated, and yet later he attended Baylor University. He began preaching Dec., 1897, and Sept. 1, 1898, he married Miss Minnie Reese Estes. They have five children. He taught seven years and has enjoyed a busy life as a gospel preacher. He has been pastor in Winnfield for two years and has accomplished much good. He is gentle, considerate of others, industrious, and faithful, a good preacher. Motto: "Never be discouraged."
