The selection of individuals for this list is based on reference value. Individuals become eligible for listing by virtue of positions achieved through election or appointment to office and by distinguished achievement in meritorious careers. Black Americans on the list, all living, include leading executives and officials in government, business, education, religion, journalism, civic affairs, fine arts, law, medicine, civil rights, sports, contemporary art, music, theater, motion pictures, television, and those responsible for recent developments in science. King was chosen for his outstanding contributions to education and civic affairs in Winn Parish. A 1955 graduate of Pinecrest High School, King received his B. S. degree from Grambling State University and his Masters of Science in mathematics at Louisiana Tech University. Very active in educational and civic organizations, King is a member of the following organizations: Advisory Committeeman for Title I Program-Winn Parish, National Education Association, Winn Parish District Voters & Civic League, Aerospace Education Association, Grambling State University Alumni Association, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and Vice President of the Winn Parish CAP Agency. He is married to the former Ann Adkins. They have two children, Vickie and Eric.
