He has done nothing else than farm and on poor land but has made money all the while. He was born and reared in Louisiana, living much of his life in Winn. December 15, 1872, he married Miss S. F. McLamore and they have reared a large and respected family. J. J. Mixon was born in Winn Parish January 31, 1874. He was reared here and educated in our commons schools, later graduating in the State Normal at Natchitoches. He began teaching at eighteen an is now a teacher in our Winnfield school with Professor Robinson. October 16, 1900 he married Miss Theodocia Abel, sister to P. K. and S. M. Abel. They have two children, Mary and Ruth, and a comfortable home in Winnfield. Professor Mixon believes the future will develop our section far beyond our present comprehension. He is a Baptist, a Mason and a Knight of Pythias. He has been successful and is reliable in a goodly degree and aspires to reach a high place in his profession and in life. In may things he has unusual judgment. Motto: "To spend my best energies in assisting our boys and girls to grow into citizenship."
