Russell, Jr., Senior Vice President of the Bank of Winnfield and Trust Company, has announced his retirement effective December 31, 1979. Graduating from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge in June, 1935 with a BA degree from the College of Arts and Sciences, James Gibson Russell, Jr. also received a commission in the United States Army as Second Lieutenant. He was employed by the bank August 1, 1935. Russell was called January 17, 1942 for active military duty in World War II as a First Lieutenant in the infantry. He served four and a half years with the Division of Military Intelligence of the War Department's General Staff and was separated with the rank of Major from the service in July 1946. In 1946 Jim Russell returned to the employ of the Bank of Winnfield and Trust Company and was elected a director in 1950 then subsequently a cashier in 1972. He will remain a member of the Board of Directors. James G. Russell, Jr., is a longstanding member of the First United Methodist Church of Winnfield and is serving faithfully as its treasurer. He is a member of the Pine Ridge Country Club and is also that organization's treasurer. Also Russell is a former member and past president of the Winnfield Rotary Club, a former member of the Winn Parish Chamber of Commerce, and has been active in many other community projects. He served three terms on Winnfield's City Council and two terms on the Winn Parish Library Board. Married to the former Thyra Holt, the Russells are parents of a daughter and son, Mrs. John Scott and James G. "Rusty" Russell, both of Winnfield and they have three grandchildren.
