Smylie Editor of The Comrade The family lived in Mississippi. His father was a farmer and accountant and died in Jackson, Miss., in 1855. His mother in 1890. The Colonel was born in Jefferson County, Miss., in 1844, and was educated in Jackson. In 1869 he married Miss Rosa Parker and is the father of three children, two of whom are living. Mr. Smylie is a publisher and printer and is now the editor of The Comrade, in Winnfield, which is a weekly newspaper of good standing. He began his career in 1858 and has had a goodly experience in his line. His ambition now is to make the Comrade the capstone of his life work here in Winnfield. The Colonel has great confidence in the future of this section and an abiding faith in a wide development. He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, is a a Mason and Knight of Pythias. He was in the Confederate army as a private and lieutenant. He joins in the belief that good roads and intensive farming are feasible in north Louisiana, and especially in Winn Parish, and is absolutely necessary to her best development. He is gentle in manner and much beloved. Motto: "To keep my obligations, to do all the good I can and make the world better and happier all my life."
