Yelverton, Judge, 14th District, Division "A", was appointed on May 28, 1971, confirmed by the Senate on May 30, 1971, and took the oath of office on June 11, 1971. He was First Assistant District Attorney for the 14th Judicial District composed of the Parishes of Calcasieu and Cameron from 1961, a period of ten (10) years until his appointment as Judge. He received his B.A. Degree from Louisiana State University in 1949 and his L.L.B. Degree from Louisiana State University in 1957. He also attended Tulane University during 1951-1952 for Graduate Studies. Prior to his return to the law school in 1955, he taught in high schools for two (2) years and served as an officer in In- telligence in the United States Air Force for two (2) years. The son of Henry L. Yelverton (deceased) and Iona Gates Yelverton, Judge Yelverton was born in Sikes, Winn Parish, Louisiana, on June 5, 1928 and was brought up in the rural area of West Carroll Parish, near Oak Grove, Louisiana. He was a member of Eta Sigma Phi honorary classical fraternity and Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity and the recipient of the Law School Allen Barksdale Award in 1957. He is a member of American Legion Post No. 1 in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Knights of Columbus Council No. 4562, the Monsignor Cramers Assembly, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, and Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church where he is a trustee and a member of the Parish Council. He is married to the former Lorraine LeJeune of Addis, Louisiana and they are the parents of seven school-age children. His hobbies are electronics and gardening. * *
