HISTORICAL NOTES:

     Pictured below on the porch of their home in Calvin, LA are Joseph
Lawrence Key, b. 28 Feb 1878, and his wife, Ollie Lee Carter Key, b. 19 Jun
1881, along with six of their seven children identified on the back of the
picture as Curtis and Curlee (twins sitting in Joseph's lap), Monroe, Presley,
Loyd, and Ira. The youngest child, a daughter, Vinnie, was not born at the
time this picture was taken.

     Lawrence (as he was known to most) was the son of William P. Key, b. 27
Jul 1864, and Marie Evans.  Joseph Lawrence was one of ten children born to
William and Mary Key.  Ollie's parents were Calvin Curtis Carter and Fannie
Curlee Machen Carter, one of the pioneer families of this area.

     Lawrence worked on the railroad and in the sawmills.  He and Ollie
married and six of their seven children were born here in Winn Parish.  The
Key family moved to Arkansas for a time but returned to Winn Parish shortly
after the birth of their seventh child and lived here for the remainder of
their lives. Their seven children and their families were as follows:

     1) William Presley Key - b. 2 Oct 1905, d. 26 Apr 1975, married Bonnie
Inez Kirksy. They had 3 sons, William Kincade (mar. Bobby Jean Dyess), James
Lawrence (mar. Jerry L. Barton), and Floyd Lynn (mar. Vonzella Abbot).

     2) James Loyd Key - b. 12 Nov 1917, d. 21 Nov 1963, married Corinne Ella
Machen. They had one son, Jimmy Bob (mar. Betty Sue Choates).

     3) Cyrus Monroe Key - b. 17 Aug 1909, d. 17 Mar 1971, married Luna Smith.
They had three children, J.W. (mar. Glenda Sue McMillian), Cora Mae (mar. 1st
Alvin Wallace, 2nd William Kirby), and Elvin Daniel (mar. Freddie Ray McCann)
and had one child, Susan Marie.

     4) Calvin Curtis Key - b. 31 Jul 1910, d. 13 Apr 1980, married Ruth
Bates. They had three children, Glynn Edward (mar. Helen Spangler), Gloria
Jean (mar. Mac Harper, div.), and Shirley Royce, (mar. Jerry Phillip Cooper)
and had Jerry Phillip, Curtis Edwin, and Felicia Janay.

     5) Fannie Curlee Key - b. 31 Jul 1910, d. 5 Dec 1996, married Perry
Davis. They had two children, Betty Jo (mar. David Anthony Nichols), and Lynda
Fay. She had two children, Karen Denetta and Randall Kevin.

     6) Ira Key - b. 2 Sep 1911, married 1st Mary Belle Dean (div.) and 2nd
Della Roberta Snellings.  Ira and Mary Belle had one child, Ira Joe, who
married Carol Ruth Gandy. Ira and Della had three children, Jerry Lynn, Benny
Ray, and David Wayne. 

     7) Vinnie Marih - b. 31 Jul 1913, married Cliff Wilkinson. They had one
child, Billy Marvin, who married Mary Jane Shows. They had two daughters,
Sherry and Susan.

     Lawrence Key died 3 Nov 1938. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie
Carter Key, 10 Sep 1934. Both are buried in Bethlehem Cemetery along with
Ollie's parents and many relatives.
