C. "Sam" Brian has been a pharmacist in Winnfield for the past 11 years, and is a lifelong resident of Winn Parish. Besides operating the Court House Pharmacy on Jones Street in Winnfield, he is part owner in Fittz Dairy here, and is also an active member and vice president of the Winn Parish Sportsmen's Club. Sam got all his grade schooling in Winnfield after his family moved here from St. Maurice, his birthplace, when he was six years old. His training in pharmacy came at Texas University school of pharmacy. His first job in a drugstore was in Temple, Texas, and later, in Jena. Eleven years ago he came to Winnfield to go into business for himself. A little over one year ago, he moved to his present location in one of the most modern buildings in the parish. He formerly operated a drugstore at the corner of Court and Abel Streets. A conservative estimate on the number of prescriptions he has filled 100,000. Sam says of his drug business, "I plan to stay with it. People either do it because they like it, or because they are making a lot of money. I like the business." He is the son of the late Dr. S. M. Brian, Sr., a well known physician in Winn for many years, and Mrs. S. M. Brian, Sr., of 1204 Center Street, member of a pioneer Grant Parish family. Sam Brian and Jesse Sandifer own and operate Fittz Dairy in Winnfield. He stated that they plan to have in operation the new pasteurization plant about the first of next year. Brian and Sandifer, along with H. E. Crawford and Theron Lovell, are stockholders in the new plant, with production herds of three dairies to furnish milk. The new plant is located on the property adjoining the Tremont Park recreation area. Sam is one of the most active members of the Winn Parish Sportsmen's Club, and presently holds the office of vice president of the organization. He is an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying any kind of hunting. His specialty is bird hunting, and he keeps good bird dogs, along with a pair of good squirrel dogs, and horses for riding. Sam is married to the former Elinor Scott of Winnfield, and they have two children, a boy and a girl. The Brians are members of the Winnfield Presbyterian Church.
