John William was the oldest son of Daniel Boyett and Talitha Underwood. The family moved from Alabama, when John was 6 years old to Winn parish sometimes late 1850. Daniel Boyett and his brother Bennett J. Boyett was some of the first land owners of the parish. John William married Cynthia James daughter to Thomas Jefferson James December 7, 1865.Thirteen children were born to this union: Emma, Daniel Bennett, William Jasper, James Albert, John Wesley, Henry Franklin, Randall M, Martha Isabell & Mary E. twins, Minerva, Horace Lafayette, Rhoda Leola,& Robert Elijah Deputy Sheriff of Winn parish killed in the line of duty in 1926. When war broke out between the states John William Boyett was one of the first in his community to volunteer to serve his state and became a member of the Twenty-eighth Regiment, Louisiana Volunteers, and served through until the surrender. He served the people of Winn Parish as a member of the Police Jury for many years during the early days of the parish organization. John William Boyett died November 15,1910 at the age of 67.He was buried at he James Cemetery along with his Wife Cynthia James and his mother Talitha.
