Dr. Faith was born September 3, 1882, on the homestead farm on which his paternal grandfather settled when coming to Winn Parish. He is the son of Z. T. and Frances Grisham Faith, the father dying in 1916 at age sixty-eight, the mother dying in 1917, age seventy eight. Z. T. Faith was born in Georgia and was age nine when the family moved to Atlanta, Louisiana. The father of Z. T. was James Faith, a farmer who settled Winn Parish prior to the Civil War. Z. T. eventually moved to Dodson, and served for many years on the parish democratic committee. He was a Mason and Knight of Pythias. Doctor Faith was the seventh of eight children of Z. T. and Frances Grisham Faith. The others were Melissa, wife of W. L. Dark, a Winn Parish police juror; Luella, wife of Joel Smith of Dodson; Jean Wilburn, a farmer; Viola, who died at age three; Tecumseh, widow of Thomas Walker; Bertha, wife of Reuben Brewer of Winnfield; and Zattie, a nurse. Doctor Faith was educated at Dodson High School, and attended the University of Louisiana for two years before entering the medical department of the University of Nashville, which is now the University of Tennessee. He graduated there May 15, 1913, and after receiving his degree of Doctor of Medicine, he returned to Dodson where he maintained his home and medical headquarters. In earlier days he made his rounds or professional calls by horseback. In 1917, he took post-graduate courses at Tulane University. He served for several years as parish health officer, was a member of the Winn Parish Medical Society, the Louisiana Medical Society, and the American Medical Society. He continued to farm and deal in live stock and was a stockholder in the Dodson State Bank, serving as director in 1917-1918. (Source: Chamber's History of Louisiana, 1925.
