Drewett, who was born Jul 1836 in Meridian, Lauderdale Co., MS. T. W. died 15 Jul 1909 in Verda, Grant Parish, LA. Military - Have Copy - 27th Louisiana Infantry, Company F, Confederate States Army, entered and ended career as a Private. Enlisted at the Town of Monroe, LA on 7 May 1862 for a period of 3 years or the War. Shown as Thomas W. Garrett, age 29, of Alabama, a farmer, has Hazel eyes, Red hair, Florid complexion and is 5' 9 1/4" high. Received a Bounty payment of $50.00 for enlisting voluntarily. Member of a militia group raised in Winn Parish, called the Winn Rebels under command of Capt. J.M. Cooper. Appears on a list of officers & privates of the 27th Regiment, Louisiana Volunteers paroled at Vicksburg, who have reported for exchange at Shreveport, La. April 1, 1864 headed by Lt. Hodges. Appears on a Roll of Prisoners paroled at Vickburg, Miss., according to terms of capitulation entered into by the commanding Generals of the United States and Confederate forces July 4, 1863. When Captured: July 4, 1863. Appears on a Roll of Prisoners of War dated at Monroe, La. June 12, 1865. Shown as T.W. Garrett, resident of Winn Parish. Co. F, 27 Regiment La. Inf. Confederate States Army, commanded by Col. A.S. Norwood, surrendered at New Orleans, La. by General E.K. Smith, C.S.A., to Maj. Gen. E.R.S. Canby, U.S.A., May 26, 1865 and paroled at Monroe, La. Also on the same kind of Roll, but at Natchitoches, La. dated June 9, 1865. Newspaper - Have Copy - Alexandria Daily Town Talk, March 29, 1935. Article entitled: Verda High School News - A short history shows the 1st school was conducted in the home of Mr. Wilson in 1879 and directed by Mr. P. McManus. Wilson donated an acre of land for the first school house in 1882 and it was named in his honor. Others attributed with aiding the establishment of that school were: M.M. O'Neal, A.J. O'Quinn, G.S. Fletcher, C.L. Purvis, H.A. McManus, T.W. Garrett and others. In 1890 a stock company was formed to raise the funds necessary to build a larger school house. Included in this association for education: T.W. & W.B. Garrett. Undated, unknown newspaper clipping, but appears to be Winston DeVille's: Early Baptists; Mars Hill Baptist Church Included in the published list of names of members 1885-1890: Eulalia, Laura, M.C., T.W. & W.B. Garrett. Probate - Have Copy - Conveyance Record, Grant Parish, La. (No number assigned & not dated) Mrs. T.W. Garrett, a femme sole, widow of T.W. Garrett, deceased; resident of Verda, Grant Parish, La. for $96.00 cash in hand paid sells to Silas L. Garrett an unmarried man, her son, of the same residence; an undivided 4/50 interest in the following described lands situated in Grant Parish, La. - to wit: Township 8 North, Range 4 West, SW 1/4 of the NW 1/4 & West 1/3 of the NW 1/4 of the SW 1/4 and West 1/3 of the Northern 1/3 of the SW 1/4 of the SW 1/4 of Section 4. And the Northern 1/3 of the SE 1/4 of the SE 1/4 and the NE 1/4 of the SE 1/4, the SW 1/4 of the SE 1/4 and the NE 1/4 of the SW 1/4 and all of that part of the SE 1/4 of the SW 1/4 being north of the public road and of the same forty East of Lev Hill Branch in Section 5. Notes for Missouri Caroline "Bobbie" Drewett: Obituary - Have Copy - Unknown newspaper: It is here that it is noted, "better known to her many friends as Aunt "Bobby" Died at son, S.L.'s homes at New Verda. Shows where she was born, year of birth is a typo "1937", age 97 at death, made her home many years at Verda and Colfax. Survivors: 3 Sons: S.L. & G.L. of New Verda and R.S. of Hargis (La.) 1 Daughter: Mrs. Eula Williams of Colfax (La.) 16 Grandchildren: Beatrice, Eltha, R.S. & Willie Lou Garrett of Verda; Lucy Harlan of Verda; Mrs. Vera Willaims of Benton (La) Mrs. Wheeler Smith & Mrs. Dot Huthnance of Colfax; Mrs. Eva Gibson & Robert Garrett of Longview, Texas; Rub(e) Garrett of Pineville; Mrs. C.A. Rufus died after 28 Jul 1860 in Winn Parish, LA and was buried in Mars Hill Cemetery, Grant Parish, LA. Likely named for his cousin, Rufus Goodson of Bibb County, AL. (5) Reuben S. Garrett, son of Thomas William and Missouri Caroline "Bobbie" (Drewett) Garrett, was born about 1864 in Winn Parish, LA, and was married there 1 Jan 1895 to (10) W. C.
