THE KIRKLAND FAMILY

Aaron Kirkland and his wife, Jane Gladden, settled in Ouachita Parish,
Louisiana about 1812.  They were both born in South Carolina according to
information given in 1880 by their son, Moses Kirkland.  They lived in
Mississippi Territory between 1806 and 1812, where at least two children were
born.  

Aaron served as a private in the 19th Regt.  La.  Militia during the War of
1812 and died before Oct 1815 when his daughter, Elizabeth, was married. At
that time his widow, Jane, signed her consent to the marriage of her
fifteen-year-old daughter.  Jane had died by 1817 when an inventory was made
of the estate in Ouachita Parish.  When the estate was finally settled in
1825, daughter Elizabeth said she and her husband had raised the minor
children of Aaron and Jane Kirkland.

to Ferdinand W.Stowe.  They both died within days of each other in Aug. 1835,
Ouachita Parish.

Jan 1826, Ouachita Parish, LA to Nancy Raney, b. cl8O4 SC. They had no
children, but helped to raise his sister, Almedia's children. 


4.  Mary Kirkland: b. 8 Jan 1804, S. C. (or Tenn?) d. 13 Oct 1884 in Jackson
Par.  LA.  She marr. 1 Nov 1830 Ouachita Par. to Daniel Burkett who died
before 1880.  Their only known child:
     a. Arhanda Burkett: b. 20  Apr. 1833, La. d. 19 Jan 1904;  marr.  Alvin
Rogers  b. 22 Apr 1822, Ala. d. 19 July 1885, Jackson Par. LA

5.  Moses Kirkland: b. cl8O6 Miss.  Terr of Washington?  He md. 11  Mar 1832,
Ouachita Par., LA to Nancy Pipes, b. 11 Sept. 1815,, Miss. d. after 1860,
Terr. of  Wash., daughter of Phillip and Elizabeth Rainey Pipes.   Family
tradition tells that they were parents of nineteen children: sixteen girls and
three boys - three sets of twins, however, only ten children were found in
census records and knowledge of descendants.

Mar 1857 in Calif to Hezekiah Oliver Triplett.
     d. Mary A. b. cl841 LA marr. 23 July 1857 (?) in Calif, to Z. Wiley.
     e.  Josephine Kirkland: b. cl843, LA.
     f.  Emily: b. cl844, LA
     g.  Eliza J.: b.cl848 LA; marr. a Mr. Wilson?
     h.  Telitha: b. dl850 LA.

6.  Almedia Kirkland: b. cl8l2 Miss.  Terr. d. some time after 1850 probably
in Jackson Par.  La.  She marr.  James Marion Hancock, perhaps in Claiborne
Par, LA about 1833.  He was born cl8l5, La. son of John Hancock.  They
divorced and he married (2) cl847 to Mrs. Elinore McFee.
