She is now Mrs. Josephine Hendricks McDow and she can expect to have her descendants gather for lunch on Sunday, October 15. Mrs. McDow now lives at Autumn Leaves Nursing Home with her only daughter, Mrs. Jessie McCarty, who is there as a caretaker. Mrs. McDow is extremely hard of hearing which makes conversation with her nearly impossible, but she has a strong voice and thinks clearly. She was born in Ouachita Parish, the daughter of Jeremiah Sylvester Hendricks, also born in Ouachita. His father was named either Adam or Wesley Hendricks and came here from Ireland. Beyond that point, Mrs. McCarty has no records of information. Mrs. McDow's mother was Emmaline Thomason, a native of Louisiana born in January. There are no dates or places available. But at any rate, she spent her early childhood with her parents who moved back and forth between Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. It was in Oklahoma that young Josephine Hendricks met and married Rush Montgomery. He was born in Oklahoma in 1866. the marriage ended in separation and Mrs. Montgomery (McDow) returned to Louisiana to live in Caldwell Parish. That was sometime in 1895-1896 and Mrs. McCarty (nee Jesse Montgomery) was born May 19, 1896, after her mother returned to Caldwell Parish In 1900 sometime in the period September 16-18, Mrs. Montgomery married Ebenezer McDow who died in 1957 only 11 days short of his 91st birthday which would have been February 22, 1957. He served on the Winn Parish Police Jury. Of this marriage, one son was born. He was John Ranel McDow, born October 18, 1901 and who died in 1949. His wife is the former Edna Truitt of Mineral Wells, Texas, who now lives in Jordan Hill. In this family are six children, George McDow, U. S. Marines, Western Pacific; John McDow, U. S. Army, Augusta, Ga.; Henry McDow, U. S. Marines, Santa Anna, California; Joe McDow, Winnfield; Mrs. Mary Morgan Lowery, Hudson; and Mrs. Florene (Gene) Keen, Winnfield. Mrs. McCarty's husband was the late Elias McCarty and their home was near Sikes. their children are Rush McCarty, who operates a nursery at Humble, Texas, and Emil McCarty, a public relations man with a hospital chain. Most of "Grandma" McDow's descendants expect to be here on October 15 for the birthday dinner.
