Union Springs Cemetery (I have also heard this cemetery referred to as the Hardshell Cemetery). Union Springs Cemetery is located approximately five miles east of Dodson, La., in old Ward 4, Winn Parish. Following are directions to the cemetery from Calvin, La., home of Mr. James Martin, who supplied this information: Point of beginning at Junction of LA. Hwy. 501 (Second Street) and LA. Hwy. 156, Calvin, La. Travel north on La. 501, 13.2 miles to junction of La. 501 and La. 126. Turn right, east, on La. Hwy. 126 and travel 4.9 miles to junction of La. 126 and La. 505, crossing La. 505, proceed 1.7 miles to junction of La. 126 and Hutto Road. Turn right onto Hutto Road and travel 0.7 miles to junction of Hutto Road and Timber Road. Turn right on Timber Road and travel 0.1 miles to junction of Timber Road and Union Springs Cemetery Road. Turn right onto Union Springs Cemetery Road and travel 0.5 miles to Union Springs Cemetery. It is 1.5 miles from junction of Timber Road and Union Springs Cemetery Road to junction of Timber Road and DeLoy Green Road. With Mr. Martin's work is a map to the cemetery and a plat of the cemetery. They had two children, a son, C. T. Parsons and daughter, Mary Elizabeth Parsons, m. Elbert Hamilton Buchanon 5 Dec. 1897. Malinda probably died as a result of childbirth complications. Her son, C. Stone is Dennis Macky Stone, 1870 census age 36, 4-33, M-W, LA., b. 1835, d. 1919, buried Gansville) Louisa Hodge 12 May 1887 June 1887 (Daughter of James Thomas Hodge and Palestine Box Hodge. There is no visible marker to identify the location of this grave, however, no less a person than Mrs. Mollie Hodge Carpenter, sister of Louisa, and wife of Dewitt Carpenter, showed her son, D. C. Carpenter, deceased well-known educator, where Louisa is buried. D. C. in turn showed W. E. Carpenter, Jr. where Louisa is buried. According to them, and I see no reason to doubt their story, Louisa is buried on the north side and next to her grandfather, Wisemon Box) Wisemon Box Co. E 28th LA. Inf.
