He came to the parish early and has been identified with her every interest and has been a personal witness to her wonderful development. He was born and reared in Alabama, and married Sarah Elizabeth Holmes in that state in 1855. They have twelve children and are still living. John was born near Gansville and has lived in the parish his entire life. His rearing was after the manner of many boys in the early days. He was educated in the public schools and in the family circle at home. Many of our best thinkers today had only this kind of training. He married Miss May E. McBride in 1885. She is a daughter of the loved and lamented Wm. McBride, so well known in early Winn Parish. They are the parents of twelve children, three of whom are dead. Mr. Wasson has been a farmer all his life and has been trusted by his neighbors. He was a member of the police jury for eight years and is now parish treasurer and a candidate for sheriff. He lives in Winnfield and operates his farm besides. He is a Baptist, Knight of Pythias, Woodman, and a member of the Farmers Union. He thinks now that with proper exertion we have great things ahead of us. We must however do our part. Motto: "To educate my children and teach them to be upright Christian men and women."
