Mars Hill Church May 30th, 1885 The Local Mission Board of the Central Baptist Association met this day and after a most logical and instructing sermon by Elder J. B. Wood, was called to order by Elder T. E. Drewitt, Chairman. Bro. S. M. Brian Sec., being absent Rev. W. B. Wood was requested to act as secretary pro. tem. The following members of the Board were present: Elders T. E. Drewitt, Chairman; T. M. Wommack and A. J. OÕQuinn. Under former resolution of the Board the following ordained ministers were seated as members: Elders J. S. Payne, J. B. Wood and W. B. Wood. The following churches were represented by delegates: MaarÕs Hill Church, New Hope Church, J. W. Jones, E. S. Bolton, Grant. Zion Hill, Jerusalem, Union Hill churches; J. M. Peters, Eld. Geo. A. Kelly, Jno. Mitchell. The chair presented a request from Bro. S. M. Brian Secretary, asking that Eld. Geo. A. Kelly represent him during this meeting. On motion of Eld. O'Quinn the request was granted, when Eld. Kelly proceeded to the duties of Secretary. On motion the chairman briefly stated the special objects of the meeting. An elaborate report from Bro. S. M. Brian was read by the Secretary. Eld.Õs OÕQuinn and Wommack, made verbal reports of interest. After a lengthy discussion of the best plan of Missionary work, Eld. Kelly suggested that each minister devote all time possible, during the next quarter in voluntary Missionary labors. On motion of Eld. J. B. Woods, the Secretary was instructed to enroll the names of such ministers as would devote time to Mission work during the quarter, also the probable time to be so devoted. J. B. Wood, 2d Sabbath in quarter. W. B. Wood, 3d Sabbath in quarter. Geo. Kelly, 3d Sabbath in quarter. A. J. O'Quinn, 6th Sabbath in quarter. J. S. Payne, all he can. T. E. Drewitt, all he can. On motion of Eld. O'Quinn, Resolved, That Pastors and members of the Board be requested to take collections and cash, and by subscription, as compensation for Missionaries only, and report at the next meeting of the Board. Eld. Kelly asked that the next meeting of the Board convene with Jerusalem Church. On motion of Bro. J. W. Jones, the Board adjourned to meet with Jerusalem Church on the 5th Sabbath in August next. He was killed by lightning on June 22, 1885, ten days after this article appeared in the Southern Sentinel. He was pastor of Sardis Baptist Church.)
