Mathis and S.G. Milam, John Milam and Dennis Milam, near Jerusalem Church last Saturday. From what we have been able to gather the trouble grew out of some deviltry done at Jerusalem church on Sunday night in July. At that time someone cut several horses loose from where they were hitched. It appears that someone had censured Dennis Milam with this, and out of this, the last difficulty grew. Mathis received several wounds over the head with a loaded whip, dealt by S.G. Milam, and Milam in return received a severe blow with a hatchet which Mathis was carrying in his hand, from where they had been at work at the church. Mathis afterwards drew his pistol and fired one shot and at the time it was thought that he, Milam, was badly wounded, but it proved, on examination, to be a cut either inflicted with the hatchet or a pocket knife. There was a general melee between the Milams and Mathis, but we refrain from making any comment as to who is to blame. Willie Milam was in the melee but acted, from what we can learn, to stop the difficulty. All the parties have many friends, and their friends have taken hold of the matter and we trust have amieably settled the difficulty, to the great desire of their friends. We hope that the trouble is at an end, and that their adjustment may be lasting. (Submitted by Peggy Chandler Beaubouef, 2656 Hwy 1232, Winnfield, LA 71483)
