Death of Monroe Bratton Verdict of Coroner's Jury State of Louisiana v. Clarence Jones An inquisition taken at Winnfield, Louisiana on the 30th day of July in the Year One Thousand Nine Hundred and Twenty Eight, before the Coroner of the Parish of Winn, upon view of the body of Monroe Bratton there lying dead. The Jurors whose names are hereunto subscribed, having been sworn to inquire on behalf of the State when and by what means said Monroe Bratton came to his death, upon their oath do say: That on Sunday afternoon on the Twenty-ninth day of July, 1928, the said Monroe Bratton came to his death by means of a pistol shot wound entering the head just below the left eye caused by a 38 S. & W. pistol, that such shot was fired by Clarence Jones. That the shooting occurred on the Northeast corner of the Court Square in the Town of Winnfield, Winn Parish, Louisiana. The Coroner's Jury finds the killing was unlawful and recommends that the said Clarence Jones be held in custody pending the action of the next session of the Grand Jury.
